jupiter-saturn conjuction!!

i was going to do a timelapse of jupiter and saturn approaching each other, but it has been cloudy for 8 of the last 10 nights. very fortunate that the night of the conjunction itself was clear! i was able to get a few pictures before work. i also have some pictures from two nights ago. all taken with a regular camera on a tripod, not a telescope, so no detail visible on the planets. however, you can see their shapes, jupiter is a disc and saturn is oblong.

camera: fujifilm x-e3 with fujifilm XC 50-230mm at 230mm

the round bright disc is jupiter, the oval bright disc is saturn. the small dots in a line are jupiter's four biggest moons. the fifth faint dot (highest, to saturn's left) is a background star.

here's a zoom of one of my images with some details edited in. superimposed detailed photos of the planets, and distance measured. bonkers how close these planets look!!

happy solstice!!
